Federal workers score legal win over pay halt during 2018-19 shutdown

KCNF Partner Heidi Burakiewicz spoke with Politico about the decision denying the government’s motion to dismiss and confirming that the government violated the FLSA when it failed to pay essential employees on their regularly scheduled pay dates during the 35-day government shutdown.  She explained that she is confident that the government did not act in good faith and that plaintiffs will be entitled to liquidated damages worth $1,160 plus the full value of overtime they worked.  She explained, “There was a lot of suffering during those 35 days. People were worried about feeding their kids, paying their bills, buying medicine. It was horrible for them.” Employees will only receive damages, however, if they join the case, which they should do so immediately at www.2018governmentshutdown.com
