KCNF’s Elisabeth Baker-Pham published an article in ClearanceJobs outlining recent changes to the Department of Defense’s (DoD) security clearance due process procedures for federal employees, service members, and contractors whose Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility is adjudicated by DoD. These changes do not affect the process for the adjudication of contractors’ collateral clearances (Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret).
Baker-Pham explains key clarifications DoD has provided about the new Security Review Proceeding (SRP). Specifically, a new supplemental step now allows affected individuals to request a virtual personal appearance before DoD’s DCSA Adjudication and Vetting Services before a final determination is made.
The revised SRP provides clearance holders with an opportunity to present their case face-to-face earlier in the process, improving engagement. Baker-Pham explains what individuals can expect if they elect to participate in the DCSA personal appearance, including who may attend, how legal counsel can assist, and how the process integrates into the existing appeals structure through DOHA and the Personnel Security Appeals Board (PSAB).
“This is a promising improvement,” Baker-Pham writes, but cautions that affected individuals should carefully read any documents they receive and seek legal guidance as needed.
