KCNF’s George M. Chuzi recently appeared as a guest on The Federal Drive with Tom Temin, where he discussed the possibility that former President Donald Trump would reinitiate Schedule F if re-elected. This move would classify a large portion of senior career civil employees as political appointees and exempt them from certain employment protections. (You can read more about Schedule F in this blog post by George from 2020.)
In the interview, George emphasizes that such a reversal would threaten to “erode the nonpartisan aspect of the civil service” and blend it into an extension of political appointees. Although Schedule F would likely face legal challenges if reinitiated, George maintains that it’s unclear whether those challenges would be successful.
