In a strategic effort to provide legal support to federal employees whose positions have been lost or threatened under the Trump administration, KCNF has partnered with the Rise Up: Federal Workers Legal Defense Network. KCNF is advising volunteer attorneys participating in this newly formed pro bono project dedicated to helping federal workers.
Organized by the A.F.L.-C.I.O. in partnership with multiple unions and civil rights organizations, including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Rise Up provides critical, individualized legal representation to federal employees nationwide, irrespective of their union membership.
In response to significant layoffs, budget cuts, and attempts to reduce union protections affecting millions of federal employees, Rise Up has mobilized a powerful network of legal support. Already, over 1,000 attorneys from 42 states have completed specialized training to assist federal workers in challenging employment decisions through their respective agencies and administrative proceedings, including the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB).
KCNF is committed to supporting the mission of Rise Up by advising attorneys on the complexities of federal employment law and procedural guidelines related to reductions in force (RIFs), administrative appeals, and related legal challenges.
“We are honored to play a pivotal role in this critical initiative,” said KCNF Managing Partner Elaine Fitch. “By empowering volunteer lawyers with the specialized knowledge they need to effectively advocate for federal workers, we are reinforcing the fundamental principle that every employee deserves representation in this time of crisis.”
As reported in The New York Times, Rise Up anticipates increasing demand as federal dismissals accelerate. The organization continues to recruit attorneys interested in supporting federal employees in their fight for justice. KCNF encourages lawyers with a passion for public service to consider volunteering their time and expertise to make a meaningful difference.
