KCNF is pleased to announce that Of Counsel Steve Pershing will be serving a two-year term as President-Elect of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA). A dedicated advocate for civil rights and workplace justice, Pershing’s leadership in this role will further MWELA’s mission of promoting and protecting employee rights throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
Pershing brings decades of experience to this leadership position. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been a steadfast champion of civil rights and employment justice. From the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, he served as Legal Director of the Virginia ACLU, developing and litigating key civil rights and liberties cases. He later worked as a senior attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he fought for minority voting rights across the country.
At KCNF, Persing has continued to stand up for employees and individuals facing discrimination and injustice. He has litigated employment and civil rights cases and has helped shape the next generation of advocates by teaching civil rights law at George Washington University, American University, and William & Mary. His deep knowledge, passion, and strategic approach to employment law make him a natural leader for MWELA.
Pershing has long recognized the importance of employment law as a cornerstone of civil rights litigation. As he told Law360, “Workplace injustice isn’t going out of style … and in a society like ours, where people’s identity is so wrapped up in their work, I feel the predicament of my employee clients especially keenly.” His leadership at MWELA will help shape the future of employment law advocacy, ensuring that employees continue to have strong legal protections.
